Blog Week 49: Brilliant idea?

Sunday 29 October 21.28

Pierre has had a brilliant idea. Or at least he believes it is a brilliant idea. For some reason he is reluctant to place an ad for Brilliant's replacement and has come up with a more (in his words) "cost-effective solution".

Part one of this masterplan is for me to sort through the various speculative CVs received over the past 12 months and compile a shortlist. Part two is that Pierre is spreading the word - whatever that means - to find the right replacement.

I don't have a great feeling about Pierre's plans and don't think Old Timer would be too impressed either.

Spent the day going through a pile of speculative CVs.  Probably got through about 20% of them.  Many are terrible: the language is awful, some are handwritten and close to eligible.  Out of the ones I reviewed many people are over-qualified for this position and have no suitable qualifications for any other position in the office.  Some people are - apparently - so well-qualified in law you have to wonder why they want to work in support staff.  It is a strange, strange world.

Old Timer would probably tell me there are things going on that I don't understand.

Tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of the announcement of the merger.  There will be a cheese-and-wine type celebration in all the firm's offices.  The one place really actually affected by the announcement was Brussels and yet no one noticed that our office is on holiday tomorrow (All Saint's Day).  The Brussels party is taking place on Friday.  I won't be able to enjoy it as I have taken Thursday and Friday as holiday.  Wonder if I'll miss anything interesting ...
