The international commercial law firm Noerr LLP presses ahead with the recently announced opening of an office in Brussels. On 1 October the internationally recognised competition lawyer Alexander Israel joins the law firm as Associated Partner. Together with Noerr partner Dr. Alexander Birnstiel, Co-head of the Regulatory & Governmental Affairs Department, Israel will develop the Brussels office which is to open at the beginning of 2014.

Alexander Israel has worked with Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in Brussels since 2008 and handled some of the most prominent competition law cases in recent years. The 35 year-old is specialised in complex merger control cases, international cartel investigations and litigation before the European courts.

"Alexander Israel is a highly respected and experienced advisor in Brussels", said Alexander Birnstiel commenting on the appointment. "We are delighted to get Alexander on board for our starting team. He brings a wealth of expertise in complex merger control and international cartel investigations and his current focus on transport, automotive and financial services is equally a priority for us." Birnstiel emphasised that Noerr in Brussels intends to establish an integrated European team offering young talent a special platform.

"This step is a unique opportunity to support a highly regarded and dynamically growing law firm with the office opening and form an effective and convincing team here in Brussels. This further step in internationalisation reflects the impressive growth of recent years, especially in competition law, and provides the optimal environment for my practice", said Alexander Israel.

Apart from internal moves from Noerr’s German and Eastern European offices, the team in Brussels is intended to be rapidly expanded by additional external lawyers. Noerr continues to advance the internationalisation of its services and will meet the strongly increasing demand for advice in competition and state aid law as well as from regulated industries. "Advice in Brussels by established experts is regarded as increasingly important by our German and, in particular, US and Asian clients in the course of pursuing their strategic objectives in Europe", explained Co-Speaker Dr. Tobias Bürgers and emphasised: "The opening in Brussels underlines both the great significance we attribute to competition law and advising companies in the regulated industries and our focus as a European commercial law firm".
