Mayer Brown announced today that Geneviève Michaux has joined the firm's Government & Global Trade practice as a partner in Brussels. Previously, she was at Hunton & Williams.

Ms. Michaux is a Belgian and French qualified lawyer whose practice focuses on regulatory matters concerning drugs, biologics, medical devices, cosmetics and food across Europe. Her niche areas are pediatric regulation, the regulation of specific medicinal products (orphans, advanced therapy medicinal products, homeopathics), life cycle management (including supplementary protection certificates), borderline products, and clinical trials and investigations.

She advises both European and global drug companies on a wide range of general issues, including authorization procedures, CE marking, vigilance, transparency and advertising and promotion. Ms. Michaux also provides a full range of regulatory services to both European and global cosmetic and medical device companies, and is an experienced litigator in the areas of life sciences, product liability and advertising.

The existing team in Brussels has wide ranging regulatory capabilities and regularly advises on EU chemical control (REACH), EU product safety and liability, and other EU regulatory matters. Ms. Michaux's arrival adds further depth to this offering, particularly in the areas of litigation, antitrust, IP and privacy.

Duane Layton, co-leader of Mayer Brown's Government & Global Trade practice, said: "We are delighted to welcome such a dynamic and client-focused lawyer to the firm. Geneviève is a highly experienced practitioner and her skills complement and replicate Mayer Brown's Life Sciences practice in the US."

Ms. Michaux said: "I was attracted to Mayer Brown as it has a strong regulatory offering in its Brussels office. The firm also has an impressive global platform and an enviable life science practice in the US. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Brussels, the US and other markets around the world in order to further expand the firm's client offering."

Jens Peter Schmidt, partner-in-charge of the Brussels office at Mayer Brown, said: "Against a backdrop of increasing market regulation we are seeing huge client demand for regulatory advice. Geneviève's arrival signals our continued investment in this area and it pleases me to welcome a lawyer of her caliber to the firm."
