Description
The Chatham House Annual Competition Policy conference 2014 will assess the role of competition policy in regulated markets, with a focus on financial, mobile telephony and electricity markets. Speakers will also assess whether the intellectual property system remains fit for purpose.
Questions to be addressed include:
- Does economic theory need to adapt to global antitrust practice?
- Is it time to rethink the intellectual property (IP) system? Does it stifle or enhance innovation?
- Which is the right approach to benchmarks in financial markets – ex ante regulation or ex post antitrust enforcement, or both?
- In the EU, does existing competition policy discourage investment in 4G networks? Is mobile consolidation required for investment?
- How can electricity markets be made more transparent, competitive and open to new entrants?
