De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek reopens Brussels office

17th June 2011

17 June, 2011 De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek has reopened its Brussels office, which will be headed by resident partner Douwe Groenevelt.

De Brauw's international competition practice has been growing strongly over the past five years. In the same period, the role of the European Commission in this practice has increased steadily. De Brauw, which had an office in Brussels from 1973 to 2002, decided to return to Brussels to respond to this trend.

Opening an office in Brussels is in line with De Brauw's international strategy. Managing partner Martijn Snoep: "Our clients' focus is more and more international. We increasingly assist our clients in their activities outside the Netherlands and this has led to more dealings with the European Commission. These involve merger control as well as cartels and abuse of dominant position. A presence in Brussels is therefore crucial to safeguard the quality of our services to clients."

After New York, London and Beijing, Brussels will be De Brauw's fourth foreign office. De Brauw will share its office space with Bonelli Erede Pappalardo (Italy), Bredin Prat (France), Hengeler Mueller (Germany), Slaughter and May (UK and Hong Kong) and Uría Menéndez (Spain and South America). De Brauw has a close working relationship with all of these firms.
