King & Wood Mallesons has expanded its European corporate practice with a lateral partner hire. Anthony Van der Hauwaert joins the firm from Squire Patton Boggs, where he worked for 14 years and was head of the firm's Belgium practice.

Anthony strengthens the private equity, M&A and corporate advisory offering at the firm's Brussels office. He began his career at Allen & Overy in 1998 and is a Belgian qualified lawyer. He is fully trilingual in Dutch, English and French.

Anthony has developed a strong, multidisciplinary corporate practice with a large focus on M&A in the Benelux region. He concentrates on corporate and finance transactions, with particular experience in cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, private equity and project finance transactions. Anthony also has significant commercial real estate and employment law expertise.

Anthony's appointment is a strategic hire to the firm's Brussels office, and he will both strengthen KWM's pan-European corporate practice and private equity transactional capabilities. His arrival will complement the firm's growing platform in the Benelux region, which was enhanced following the firm's expansion into Luxembourg.

Stephen Kon, Senior Partner of Europe and Middle East at King & Wood Mallesons, said: "Anthony's hire is an important development for the European Corporate practice as well as the Brussels office, which will allow us to expand our existing and profitable Corporate and related practices in a dynamic region. Anthony is an exceptional lawyer with ambition to grow. He will help us to build on our successful track record both in this part of the world and across our global platform."

Ramon Garcia Gallardo, Managing Partner of the Brussels office at King & Wood Mallesons, said: "Our aim is to build up a solid reputation in the Belgian market for our ability to offer corporate finance and transactional services to meet the demands of our clients. Anthony will be a strong addition to our growing team here in Brussels and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm."

Maxence Bloch, European and Middle East Co-Head of Corporate at King & Wood Mallesons, said: "Anthony has a strong domestic understanding with an international perspective, which makes him an excellent fit for our firm and existing Corporate practice. With his strong Corporate/M&A expertise, we believe he will make a significant contribution to our pan-European practice."

Anthony van der Hauwaert said: "The pull of King & Wood Mallesons' global brand and direction of the firm is something that particularly appeals to me. I am excited to be joining a dynamic firm with genuine global reach and deep European and Asian roots, which will enable me to better serve my clients on an international scale."

Anthony's hire is part of the firm's growth strategy that has seen 20 partners join the firm in Europe and the Middle East over the last 18 months, including Capital Markets partner Bart Capeci, International Finance partner Lorraine Vaz, Real Estate partner Jean-Louis Martin and Litigation partner Ghassan El Daye who have all commenced with the firm in recent months.
