Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has announced that Wilko van Weert has joined its antitrust and competition team as a partner in Brussels.

Wilko, who joins from McDermott, Will & Emery, has established a reputation as a leading lawyer in the Brussels market focussed on the whole suite of competition work, but with particular experience in cartel investigations, IP-related matters, abuse of dominance cases and related compliance work. He has been involved in a number of high profile investigations in recent years before the European Commission and other global regulators and courts.

Ian Giles, Head of Antitrust, Europe, Middle East and Asia (EMEA), commented:

“Brussels is a global centre for competition law and Wilko brings a wealth of experience that will extend our existing European offering, and create strong synergies with our Asia team given Wilko’s extensive experience acting with Asian clients. He will play a key role in supporting and implementing our growth strategy across the region and globally. The growth of our Brussels capability is especially important as the Brexit transition period comes to an end.”

Wilko, who is recognised as a leading competition lawyer in both the Global Chambers and Legal 500 EMEA 2020 guides, commented:

“Norton Rose Fulbright has one of the foremost global antitrust and competition practices with a reputation for handling high-profile, complex matters. This provides me with a great platform to build and develop my practice and I look forward to working with the team.”

With a team of over 150 antitrust and competition lawyers in 20 countries, Norton Rose Fulbright advises on all aspects of antitrust law including multinational mergers and clearances, cartels, abuse of dominance, international investigations, compliance and antitrust litigation.

The Norton Rose Fulbright competition team has expanded both through strategic lateral hires including Maxim Kleine in Hamburg and in recent years, the practice has promoted three partners in the EMEA region – Tim Schaper in Hamburg and Caroline Thomas and Susanna Rogers, both based in the London office. This European growth has been reinforced internationally with a number of partner promotions and lateral hires in the US, Canada, Australia and elsewhere across the global team, reinforcing the group’s position as a leading practice throughout the work as recognised with its “Top Ten Global Elite” status in Global Competition Review’s 2020 rankings.
