Brulex: Results and Rankings after 13 games, 11 June 2010

Premier League

Following its victory against Van Bael & Bellis and German Lawyers United's end-of-season blues (a draw against Olympique Berquin and a surprise loss against Racine & Vergels that marks their first points of the season), White & Case cannot be threatened anymore and crowns itself for the first time as brulex premier league champions.  Congratulations to Anthony Dawes and his team, which was without any doubt the most consistent throughout the season!

Arguably even more exciting is the bottom of the ranking: no less than four teams (Clifford Chance, Stibbe, Olympique Berquin and Linklaters) are within a two-points range, and only two of these four teams will be able to remain in next year's premier league.  What is even more exciting, is the fact that each of these four teams have to play against each other on the occasion of their last game of the season.  Their mission is simple: whoever wins its respective game, will remain in the premier league!

Second League

Also the second league is most exciting.  On the penultimate day, Laga managed to overtake whole-season leaders, Loyens & Loeff, in the ranking.  However, with only one point bonus, they will have to win their final game of the season to ensure a second star on their shirt after last year's third league championship.  Also the battle for the third spot (and, therefore, promotion) remains fierce. Third-ranked van Cutsem Wittamer Marnef needs to win or draw its game against fourth-ranked Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.  However, should the latter win, then a test game will decide on which team will be last to promote.

And as far as relegation is concerned, Cleary Gottlieb is the first team to be sure to return to the third league next season.  In the meantime, Skadden Arps, Eubelius and Gide Loyrette Nouel have 13 points each and also need to win their final game to avoid relegation.  However, if these three teams would manage to win their respective games, they would still have the same number of points and would have to play nothing less than a test competition to decide which team will be relegated…

Third League

And in the third league, the odds remain stacked in favour of Howrey ° Sidley.  However, as they also have only one point bonus over Altius ° Tiberghien, they need to win their final game to be crowned third league champions.  Third-ranked Liedekerke still remains on a promotion spot, but they will have to win or draw their final game against fourth-ranked Allen & Overy, failing which the latter would promote.

Best luck to all!

On behalf of the brulex organising committee,
Michel
